This large and highly geographically dispersed NSW State Agency had recently updated its IT Strategic Plan. The updates were limited to the creation of seven appendices that conformed to the new State Government guidelines. We were engaged to develop two new business cases and update two existing business cases for submission for funding approval. The projects covered connectivity improvements and new systems for Customer and Stakeholder Relationship Management (CSRM), a Portal and a Data Warehouse. This project required extensive engagement with IT and business unit staff and management plus a number of potential solution vendors. The major elements considered during the project were the Business Drivers, IT Environment, Benefit Realisation and Solution Costing. The resulting business cases fully supported the current IT Strategic Plan, were justified based on a conservative estimate of likely benefit realisation and were supported by broad engagement of all affected stakeholders.
